What inspired you to open Shinsen? I’ve always been a foodie and have always loved the Japanese culture and food. I worked my first job as a hostess/waitress at a Japanese restaurant in midtown Manhattan when I was fourteen years old. One of my dreams was to open a restaurant one day and City Center helped to make that happen for us.
What makes your sushi different from other sushi restaurants in the Lehigh Valley? We offer many options on our menu from sushi, maki rolls and customizable Poke Bowls. What makes us stand out are our homemade dressings and sauces such as our ginger dressing and sriracha aioli. Our sauces are the final touch that bring our creations to life.
Why did you want to open your restaurant in Downtown Allentown? We noticed there wasn’t a sushi restaurant in the downtown vicinity. We wanted to bring and add our flavors to the growing diverse community.
What’s your favorite part of being in the Downtown Allentown Market? Our favorite part of being in the Market is working alongside the other vendors. It really feels like we are part of a big family. We also love the events such as live music and comedy shows.
What’s your signature menu item? We are known for our custom Poke Bowls. Customers have a choice of protein(s), salad or rice, and choice of dressing.
Do you serve alcoholic beverages? Yes, we serve beer, sake and cocktail specials.
What do you like to do for fun when you’re not making sushi and poke bowls? I enjoy spending time with my children, trying new restaurants and binge-watching TV shows.
